Ethics

An ethical dilemma I had was whether or not to make my non-profit a Christian organization. I decided to make it a secular organization because I did not want to limit my client base or make anyone feel ostracized.

Another ethical dilemma I had was whether to include men or make it exclusively women. The inspiration of the idea behind the non-profit was sparked by meeting a young woman who was working at Ross: Dress for Less. She opened up to me about her life story. She was attending community college, but had to drop out due to getting pregnant. Now, she has to work full time at Ross to support her and her daughter. She mentioned to me how she always wanted to have her own clothing line, yet her big dreams were to become a pediatrician so she could help single mothers like herself. I firmly believe that the future is female and we need to be investing in women at a young age so they can feel mobilized to pursue their dreams. Women are often objectified in the media, and we are taught from the day were born that looks define a persons worth. This is untrue. Women are so dynamic, have so much potential, and it is vital for me to promote that.
